Are you prioritising children’s language as an area for development?
Do you want to develop your subject knowledge in grammar, vocabulary and spelling?
Are you looking to embed language teaching in rich and meaningful contexts?
Do you feel you are stuck in a rut with routine practices?
Learning about language in use is powerful, important and can be highly enjoyable. Research has shown that contextualised learning does not have a long-lasting impact. In this course, we start by considering how our classrooms can become rich language-learning environments so that children can secure an implicit understanding of how language works in diverse situations. We then look at effective ways of explicitly teaching how language works to help children to have agency when reading and writing and to equip them to make good choices.
Participants will have a framework for teaching language (grammar, punctuation, vocabulary and spelling) in context and a toolkit to draw on for targeted teaching to meet the needs of different learners.
